Shandy Hall is an accredited museum run by the Laurence Sterne Trust. Sterne lived in Shandy Hall, a medieval long hall, from 1760 until his death in 1768 and wrote much of Tristram Shandy whilst living here. The museum houses books, paintings, manuscripts, prints and ephemera relating to Laurence Sterne.

Coxwold is in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, 4 miles off the A19 between York (15 miles) and Thirsk (8 miles).  Nearby attractions include Byland Abbey and Rivelaux Abbey. Park in the village. Spaces for disabled drivers available at Shandy Hall.
